Zoomlion Breaks Silence on YEA Contract Exit, Dismisses Termination Claims

In a move that has stirred public interest and varied interpretations, the contract between Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has officially come to an end. According to a statement issued by the Office of the President and reported by Prime News Ghana, the contract, focused on sanitation and street-sweeping services, expired in September 2024 and will not be renewed.
The Presidency’s position is that value for money and efficiency in public service delivery are driving factors behind this decision, adding that this move aligns with broader reforms in the sanitation sector.
In response, Zoomlion Ghana Limited issued clarifications across multiple platforms. The High Street Journal reported that the company strongly rejected assertions that the contract was abruptly terminated, insisting that the agreement had naturally run its course. Zoomlion emphasized that the YEA arrangement concluded after its scheduled extension, not due to any misconduct or breach.
Echoing this position, The Chronicle noted that Zoomlion further clarified it had not been blacklisted and remains eligible to bid for future government contracts, particularly under the newly proposed frameworks.
While some social commentators have speculated on political motivations behind the non-renewal, Zoomlion stated its commitment to ongoing sanitation efforts in Ghana, either in partnership with government agencies or through independent operational models.
The company has also pledged to ensure a smooth transition and called for transparent public engagement to clarify misunderstandings surrounding the contract's status.
