Accra, Ghana – June 25, 2025 Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo is scheduled to deliver a public address this afternoon, Wednesday, at 3:00 p.m. GMT at the Palms by Eagles Airport City, formerly the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra.

The highly anticipated statement comes in the wake of sustained public discourse surrounding her suspension and the pending petitions calling for her removal from office. Filed on February 14 and March 17, the three petitions prompted President John Mahama to activate constitutional procedures under Article 146, referring them to the Council of State for assessment.

Acting on the advice of the Council of State, the President subsequently established a five-member investigative committee led by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, with fellow members Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, Major Flora Bazuwaaruah Dalugo (Rtd), and Professor James Sefah Dziasah.

Law Platform, a specialised legal affairs news outlet, first reported the Chief Justice’s intent to speak publicly, citing insider sources familiar with the ongoing proceedings. While her office has yet to issue an official press release, multiple media houses have since corroborated the report, heightening anticipation around her remarks.

This will be Her Ladyship's first public address since the probe began, an opportunity many expect she will use to assert her position and address growing national scrutiny. Legal experts, civil society groups, and political observers continue to call for due process and transparency as the case unfolds.

More details will follow after the address.
