An armed attack on the Canadian Crypto Exchange
On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, around 11 am, three armed robbers entered the Canadian Bitcoins office in Ottawa and attacked four members of the exchange. Having connected them and threatening with a pistol, the criminals demanded to transfer the funds of the exchange to them. The fifth employee, who remained unnoticed, called the police, and the robbers fled with nothing.
One of the suspects, a 19-year-old resident of Ottawa, was detained. He was accused of robbery with the use of firearms and forcible retention. The Ottawa police are looking for two more participants in the crime.
The Canadian edition of CBC News reports that the robbers sought cash at the crypto exchange.
This is not the first attack on holders of Cryptocurrency. In November, a resident of New Jersey, Louis Metz, attacked the owner of the broadcast. Threatening the gun, he took away the victim’s mobile phone and private keys, which he used to access the digital wallet. As a result, he stole a $ 1.8 million crypto currency. The offender faces up to 25 years in prison.
