From Coindesk Bitcoin Is Now Officially In Its Longest Bear Market Ever

Bitcoin has officially entered the longest stretch of declining prices in its 10-year history.
The world’s oldest and most valuable cryptocurrency achieved an all-time high of $19,764 on Dec. 17, 2017 on the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index and has printed a series of lower price highs ever since, making February 2 (as per UTC time), the 411th consecutive day prices have been in decline.

As such, bitcoin’s latest stretch surpasses the duration of the infamous 2013-2015 bitcoin bear market, which spanned 410 days from its price high to low.

👉From Coin Telegraph Wyoming Passes Bill to Recognize Cryptocurrencies as Money

In the United States, the state of Wyoming passed a bill that will allow for cryptocurrencies to be recognized as money on Jan. 31, according to the state legislature website.

On Jan. 18, Wyoming legislation presented the bill, which would help to clarify the classification of cryptocurrency.

As reported by Cointelegraph earlier this month, the bill will place crypto assets into three categories: digital consumer assets, digital securities and virtual currencies. Any digital assets that fall into those three categories will be defined as intangible personal property, granting virtual currencies the same treatment as fiat money.

QuadrigaCX, the largest bitcoin exchange in Canada, has lost $190 million worth of crypto after it lost access to its cold storage wallets.
An affidavit filed on January 31 with the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia revealed that $190 million in Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Cash SV, Bitcoin Gold, Litecoin, and Ethereum were lost.

In the case of QuadrigaCX, the now deceased founder and CEO was solely responsible for overseeing the funds, and since he passed away, no one could access the funds that he previously maintained.

👉From Coin Telegraph UK Crypto Liquidity Provider Receives Financial Regulator's Approval

United Kingdom crypto liquidity startup B2C2 OTC Ltd. has received approval from the country’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on Wednesday, Jan. 30, according to a record in the FCA’s register.

A separate press release notes that B2C2, which also provides electronic over-the-counter (OTC) trading, can now offer contracts for difference (CFDs) to eligible counterparties and professional clients.

The firm’s co-founder, Max Boonen, believes the acceptance of the license will allow investors to gain exposure to cryptocurrency markets while avoiding the risks associated with crypto custody.

  1. It’s funny, losing $190 million would have been a once in a lifetime occurrence, but now with cryptos it seems so normal

  2. Wow that’s a lot of money to lose by losing access to your wallet!!! Keep your keys safe people!!

  3. I just keep losing more and more value since over a year haha 😀 not what i signed up for tbh

  4. Looking forward to what Funfair have to say. I really hope they are going to smash it. Jez is super smart

  5. I can understand some people lacking awareness on Syscoin despite it being mainnet since 2014 because the project is best likened to the persona of a silent, humble kungfu master.

  6. Thanks for interviewing Jag! When he finally speaks, people should give ear. I urge those unfamiliar to objectively look into Syscoin’s tech, fundamentals and relatively long and interesting history in the space. Project has been mainnet since 2014 and evolving ever since. Has survived multiple market cycles, through thick and thin. Jag is certainly among the best public blockchain developers today in my opinion – highly intelligent and knowledgeable, yet humble, and has contributed quite a bit to many projects whether in form of insight, code or bug-fixes, and has claimed bounties. Syscoin’s Z-DAG Protocol introduced May 1st 2018 in SYS3 is the first to solve several major industry-wide challenges as it 1) provides truly *decentralized* DAG, 2) provides global consistent sorting of consensus to DAG. 3) LN/VISA-like performance for assets while maintaining PoW security/finality – all representing significant challenges. The new approach in SYS4 toward cross-chain interoperability w/ EVM and offchain aggregation also represent significant industry-wide challenges being met by this team and project. It appears Syscoin has now smashed the Dogethereum challenge.
