US Securities regulator is “open” to federal regulation of virtual currencies
A U.S. securities regulator plans on telling lawmakers he’s ‘open’ to federal regulation for virtual currencies. This is testimony regarding the latest hearing in US federal court on virtual currencies titled “Virtual Currencies: The Oversight Role of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.”
Congressional sources told Reuters the hearing is largely a fact-finding exercise focusing on the powers of the SEC and CFTC to oversee cryptocurrency exchanges.
